At ParagonInc, we are much more than just a karate school, a sport, or a fun activity. We are a family that creates Superheroes.
We teach our students that by focusing on their own behaviour they can influence the world in a positive way. Through our innovative programs, each of our students learns to unleash their inner Superhero to become the best version of themselves that they can be.
At ParagonInc, we aim to make each class a positive, rewarding and motivating experience. We are a family school with a friendly, inclusive and welcoming community, providing exceptional karate training to students of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities. It is our belief that any person, regardless of ability, should be given the opportunity to participate fully, and our programs are designed to ensure this.
Model of Excellence
The word “Paragon” means “model or example of excellence”. We strive to ensure that our school, teachers and students live up to this name. A person who is a paragon in any field is the person who represents the best of that field. A Paragon Black Belt should embody the best of themselves, their family, their community and their karate school.
Our highly trained teachers form a special connection with each student, leading by example and encouraging them to be all they can be. Every teacher goes through specialised training to ensure they interact with your children and with you in a positive manner, and participate in ongoing training to ensure the highest of standards are maintained. Our teachers use the Paragon method to ensure every student has the opportunity to reach their full potential.
We regularly seek input from students and their families and we are constantly looking for ways to improve our curriculum. We aim to provide not only an outstanding karate curriculum, but challenge our students to excel in all aspects of their lives while providing them with the tools to be able to do so.
Paragon will change your child’s life by teaching them how to become successful, compassionate and overcome life’s challenges. We are passionate about helping each and every person that we come in contact with. We are more than just karate; Paragon is a way of life.
Our Founder and his legacy
Sensei Cameron Gill was the Founder and Head Instructor of ParagonInc, formerly Paragon Martial Arts.
He began training when he was six years old and trained in numerous styles. He was an Australasian Grand Champion in kata with his famous trademark spinning kick and splits move! Sensei Cameron was well-known throughout Australia and the world for his exceptional teaching ability with Tiny Tumblers through to adults. Sensei Cameron studied Physiotherapy at Melbourne University, and worked as a paediatric physiotherapist. He used his knowledge of human development and accelerated learning to create both a highly effective martial art, and also an efficient teaching system. He was readily able to assist students to identify their individual strengths and how best to develop them.
Sensei Cameron developed the Paragon curriculum, and created exciting programs to complement the karate curriculum, such as life skills programs, and the one of a kind Velocity program. His programs have been presented and are known throughout Australia and the world. He created the acclaimed Paragon Superhero Program.
In 2012, Sensei Cameron was diagnosed with a rare brain tumour. This increased his urgency to work hard to impact real change. He was driven to push beyond boundaries of expectations to embrace challenges others may consider impossible. Sensei Cameron used his experience as an opportunity to grow and learn, and to make a difference, one of the main lessons that Paragon aims to teach. He refused to let his cancer consume him. Instead, he became more determined than ever to have a truly excellent curriculum. He wished to make the biggest possible impact in the lives of as many people as possible. Sensei Cameron did not like people to feel sorry for him; on the contrary, he was able to see the opportunities in the challenges that his diagnosis posed. In Sensei Cameron’s words
“It doesn’t matter that I have cancer. I am still happy and still living life fully. To me it’s kind of an exciting adventure…like fighting pirates.”
Sensei Cameron died in April 2019 after a seven year journey with brain cancer. His legacy, and his desire to make a positive change in the world lives on through Team Paragon and our whole extended community. Sensei Sarah Kirchmair, a long time student of Sensei Cameron and manager of the school, took on the role of Lead Teacher and continues to create superheroes!
